Veritas America was founded by a group of individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and viewpoints. What does every member of our team have in common? We believe in basing our values, our actions, and our words on the truth.
None of those values mean anything if the people who claim to uphold those beliefs ignore reality and aren’t held to those standards. This includes you, us, elected and appointed officials, judges, clergy, and business leaders. This site exists because we got tired of headlines that told us how to feel instead of what actually happened.
We cover politics, economics, military affairs, healthcare, religion, and anything else that affects the lives of regular Americans. We don’t start with a conclusion and work backward, and we never take anything at face value without verifying it. We start with the facts and follow them wherever they go, even if those facts lead us to challenge long-held beliefs.
We aren’t afraid to change our minds when presented with new information. Everyone carries assumptions into a story, and we try to check ours before we publish. If we get something wrong, we admit it. That’s the kind of integrity we feel is lacking in America today. How many politicians can say that?
Veritas is the Latin word for truth, and that’s the only standard we hold ourselves to. Not blind party loyalty, or ratings, or the preferences of donors or advertisers. The truth.
The truth is often hiding in plain sight. It’s in the voting records of legislators who campaign on one thing but vote a different way. It’s in the failing, and often shocking, health statistics of communities that have trusted the same politicians for decades. It’s in the courtroom verdicts and the financial disclosures and the policy outcomes that never quite get the same coverage as campaign rallies. We think Americans deserve to see all of it, not just the parts that are comfortable.
Agenda and Perspective
The first fact we should all acknowledge is that today’s media has an agenda, and it’s not the truth. It’s money. It’s shareholder value. It’s eyeballs and likes and shares and market saturation. The truth sometimes shows up, but it’s often skewed, or only partially revealed. Think about this pair of hypothetical headlines:
Company Lays Off 2,000 Workers
— versus —
Company Streamlines Workforce to Boost Efficiency
Both of these headlines could be factually correct, but each conveys a very different message, with an agenda that skews the truth. Both present a one-sided perspective designed to create an emotion in the reader, not inform them. Our goal at Veritas America is to present the facts in a truthful and complete manner and let you make up your own mind based on those facts.
Not everyone will agree with what the facts show, and that’s fine. We’re not here to tell you what to believe. Our job is to make sure you have the full and truthful picture. What you do with it is up to you.
Our editorial standards, including how we handle corrections and conflicts of interest, are outlined on our Ethics and Standards page.
